Charlie
Our son Charlie was born on the 5th December 2006 and was diagnosed with severe heart disease 2 days later, along with the expertise and medical care he received from his local hospital (James Paget, Gorleston, Gt. Yarmouth), he was also transferred to Gosh with urgency where he stayed for a week and underwent a minor heart operation, to this date, Charlie has now had 6 operations, 4 of which have been major open heart surgery at GOSH, his last operation being in September 2007 where he was in their care for 14 days.

Unfortunately, Charlie’s condition, Transposition of the Great Arteries (T.G.A.) and a Straddling VSD (the arteries leading into his heart are the wrong way round and there's also a hole in the bottom chamber with a valve crossing over it making it impossible to correct) is, and will be an ongoing problem for him. The way forward for him is to undergo further open heart operations in the months and years to come to help maintain blood and oxygen to his heart and will probably need a heart transplant when he is in his teens.
